BIBLICAL VIRTUE GROUP

Because I value God's teaching in the Bible, I choose to believe and follow its teachings.

What To Believe

Great Controversy

The Bible teaches that Satan rebelled against God and led angels and the first humans into sin. God has power over Satan and by Christ's death sealed Satan's doom. Therefore, eventhough I see the suffering Satan has caused, I know someday God will destroy Satan and make all things new.

I choose to believe the Bible teaching of the Great Controversy.

Definition

Great Controversy means: War between Christ and Satan.

The battle started in heaven when a created being, Satan, led a rebellion against God. Satan later introduced the spirit of rebellion in Earth through Adam and Eve's rebellious choice. The whole of creation looks on, as this world becomes the center of the Great Controversy between Christ and Satan. Satan is questioning God's character, the fairness of His law, His right to rule, and Jesus' right to save sinners from eternal death.

Student Life Applications

Because I know about the Great Controversy between Christ and Satan I will:

See in the world events as well as in the personal lives of those about me the effects of the unseen forces of good and evil;
Avoid trying to fight the evil in the world with only my human strength;
Make my decision to trust in God as my only way to face Satan and his evil angels;
Have comfort knowing that God will ultimately win in the fight against the evils of Satan as taught in the Bible;
Know when temptation comes to me that unseen evil angels are present trying to destroy me, but God’s angels can deliver me if I call on Him for help;
See the effects of Satan and his government in the sickness, hunger and human tragedy

2. Drop the Ball: Form pairs. Give each pair a wadded sheet of paper. Have partners paly one-handed toss (with left hand). After a few minutes of tossing say: Sin caused a complication in the game of life. Listen to what God does when we mess up and succumb to the wrong side of the controversy. Read: 1 John 1:8, 9. Thank God for winning the controversy.

Great Stories for Kids by Jerry D. Thomas. PPPA. 1999

All humanity is now involved in a great controversy between Christ and Satan regarding the character of God, His law, and His sovereignty over the universe. This conflict originated in heaven when a created being, endowed with freedom of choice, in self-exaltation became Satan, God's adversary and let into rebellion a portion of the angels. He introduced the spirit of rebellion into this world when he led Adam and Eve into sin. This human sin resulted int he distortion of the image of God in humanity, the disordering of the created world, and its eventual devastation at the time of the worldwide flood.
