TEMPORAL VIRTUE GROUP

Because I value the time Christ has given me, I choose to use my time wisely.

How To Use My Time Wisely

Good Music

God created music. He gave us beautiful music for our joy and as a way to praise Him. Some music, however, is not from God.

I choose to use my time creating and enjoying good music.

Definition

Good Music means: Music that praises God, music with words that talk about good things that we believe. Music that is not associated with dancing or people that are not Christ-like, music that creates a feeling of optimism and goodness. Music that you would expect Jesus to enjoy listening to, avoid music associated with activities not approved by our church. Avoid music that features artists that act, dress or live in a way we do not approve. Good music means music appropriate for the occasion, for example church music, picnic music, Adventist Youth Association, game night.

Bible, E.G. White

Psalm 101:1 I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto thee, O LORD, will I sing.
Psalm 105:1, 4 Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.
Psalm 14:49 I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: upon a psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing
praises unto thee.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

“Music was made to serve a holy purpose, to lift the thoughts to that which is pure, noble, and elevating, and to awaken in the soul devotion and gratitude to God. . . which is a great blessing when rightly used. . .Singing, as a part of religious service, is as much an act of worship as is prayer. The heart must feel the spirit of the song to give it right expression.” PP 594
“Music can be a great power for good, yet we do not make the most of this branch of worship. . . . Music should have beauty, pathos, and power. Let the voices be lifted in songs of praise and devotion. Call to your aid, if practicable, instrumental music, and let the glorious harmony ascend to God, an acceptable offering.” 4T 71
