HEALTH VIRTUE GROUP

Because I value my body as Christ's temple, I choose to achieve and maintain optimum physical, mental, and spiritual health.

How To Be Healthy

God's ideal is for me to get regular and vigorous exercise. It keeps my body healthy and my mind clear to understand His Word.

I choose to be physically fit.

Student Life Applications

Because my body is God's creation and His way of speaking to me, I will:

Keep my body in physical fitness by regular exercise.

Choose activities that use all my different muscles.
Work hard in home chores that will bless the family and keep me strong physically.

Look for practical ways to get exercise and do something productive at the same time like: work in the garden, do home chores, wash the car, bike; or play outside games with younger children to care for them while my parents are busy.

Bible, E.G. White

Genesis 2:15 (For Adams’ own benefit God gave him physical labor to do outdoors.)
I Corinthians 9:25-27 (I train my body and keep it under control because my goal is to be ready and not miss out on eternal life when Jesus returns.)
2 Thessalonians 3:10 If a person doesn't work he shouldn't eat.

“Not only will the organs of the body be strengthened by exercise, but the mind also will acquire strength and knowledge through the action of those organs.” 3T 78
“Such mental exercise as playing cards, chess, and checkers excites and wearies the brain and hinders recovery, while light and pleasant physical labor will occupy the time, improve the circulation, relieve and restore the brain, and prove a decided benefit to the health.” 1T 555
“They might have come from school with increased physical as well as mental strength, had they pursued their studies under proper conditions, with regular exercise in the sunlight and the open air.” ED 208
“Light employment in useful labor, while it does not tax mind or body, has a happy influence on both. It strengthens the muscles, improves circulation and gives . . Satisfaction.” Ed 212.

Reinforcing Stories

Tell about the astronauts who had to lie on their backs for 3 months as an experiment for space travel. They had to exercise everyday for several hours to keep healthy.

Student Activities

1. Bring to class, foods that benefit muscle development and explain that cows and elephants are vegetarians so people don't need to eat meat to be stong.
2. Do several exercises for the various muscles, e.g. stretching, aerobic, lifting weights, running, balance bar. Ask who did them today. Point out that if the exercise is not done, the body will become weak and can't move at all.
3. Choose some physical labor to do during the week.
4. Accompany and help an older person with his exercises.
